3. Miracle Day Follow Up Work - Plumbers
Needed!
Many miracles happened on Miracle Day at Camp
Walter Scott, but there is still work to be done in order to
complete the bathroom additions to Cabin #1 and Cabin #2.
Right now volunteers with plumbing expertise (and especially
licensed plumbers) are needed. If you could volunteer any time
within the next month, please contact Camp Director Becky Lewis
at 217-739-2332 or campcciw@yahoo.com. We will be
seeking volunteers with carpentry experience beginning in January.
If any one mistakenly brought home someone else's saw zall
on Miracle Day, please return it to the Regional office. Thanks
4. Thanksgiving Special Offering Benefits Future Disciples
Leaders
The annual Thanksgiving special offering goes to
support ministries of higher education through the Christian Church
(Disciples of Christ). Fourteen Disciples colleges and universities
and seven theological institutions receive support from the
Thanksgiving offering, which will be received Nov. 11 and Nov. 18.
The offering helps to ensure that Disciples institutions of higher
learning will continue to train the future leaders of the Church.
Disciples congregations are encouraged to prayerfully consider
supporting the Thanksgiving offering and its significance to the
unique Disciples witness in the world. For more information and
offering resources, see: Thanksgiving
Resources.
5. IL Valley Cluster Invited to Christmas Tea
IL
Valley Cluster churches are invited to a Christmas Tea at Memorial
Christian Church, 2507 W Newman Parkway, Peoria, IL, on Saturday,
December 1, 2007, beginning at 2:00 pm. Enjoy fellowship along with
Christmas cookies and holiday breads, coffee and spiced tea. Delores
Sheen will present Laughter is the Best Medicine at 3:00 pm.
6. Christmas Offering Resources Available
The
Christmas offering supports Regional ministry! In fact, 100% of all
gifts to the Christmas offering support the work of the Region. We
hope you'll help get the word out!
Regional ministry includes: camps for children & youth,
shared mission projects like Miracle Day, helping congregations in
times of crisis, helping congregations call their next pastor,
developing leaders in the church. Regional staff serve as advisors,
resource persons, pastors and friends to church leaders.
Offering materials are available on our website - bulletin
inserts, posters, minutes for mission, and a planning guide. Visit
these pages and place your order for additional materials. Christmas
Resources A mailing to each congregation should arrive in the
next week.
7. Our Mission Partners Coming to Visit
Bruce and
Linda Hanson, our Global Mission Partners in Honduras, will be
available for visits in our Region during February and March, 2008.
Their work in education, health and nutrition has impacted the lives
of many. Dates are available during the week as well as on the
weekend, except for Feb. 25 and Feb. 28. If you would like to
schedule a visit in your area, please contact Lois Whitaker at
217.824.6816 or email her at JandLWhit@consolidated.net
We are asking local congregations to be responsible for providing
the missionaries with hospitality; which includes meals, housing and
local transportation. Introduce your congregation to some real, live
missionaries! They have a powerful witness, great stories to
tell.
