      Tufts University Dean to deliver commencement address at Eureka College

 

            The dean of Tufts University School of Arts and Sciences in Medford , Mass. , will
deliver the commencement address at Eureka College graduation exercises May 3.
Robert J. Sternberg will speak on “How Higher Education Can Produce the Next Generation
of Positive Leaders” at the 10:30 a.m. ceremony in Rinker Open Air Theatre, where approx-
imately 130 bachelor’s degrees will be awarded. In addition, Eureka College will confer
Sternberg with an honorary doctor of science degree.

            Sternberg is a psychology professor and an adjunct professor of education at Tufts.
He formerly taught at Yale University , where he directed the Center for the Psychology of
Abilities, Competencies and Expertise, which now is located at Tufts.
 

            Sternberg is internationally known for his studies of the multiple dimensions of human
intelligence and the practical implications of these dimensions of intelligence in everyday life.
He
has authored more than 1,000 publications and has received more than $20 million in
contracts and grants for his research conducted in five continents and focusing on intelligence,
creativity, wisdom, love, close relationships and hate.

            Sternberg is president of the Eastern Psychological Association and president-elect
of the International Association for Cognitive Education and Psychology. He earned a
bachelor’s degree with summa cum laude honors from Yale University and a doctorate from
Stanford
University
.
