"For where your treasure is,
there your heart will be also." ~ Matthew 6:21

Heartbeats of Faith is the theme for the capital campaign to assure the
viability of Disciples' Churchwide Health Care program. The General
Assembly, in Portland, approved the $5 million capital campaign.

The Churchwide Health Care program is the primary medical, dental, and
vision insurance for more than 2,900 church servants. The program has been
and must remain self-funded, meaning that premiums received from plan
participants are used to cover claims. Previously no other resources in the
church were available to equalize pressures on the program or expand
wellness programs.

The Health Care Benefit Reserve Fund created by the campaign will aid the
Churchwide Health Care program by managing program costs, sustaining program
viability, and offsetting claims that exceed premiums. Any income earned
from the Health Care Benefit Reserve Fund could be available to subsidize
health care premiums for older (60+years) health plan participants,
pensioners who have great financial need, and new church pastors; as well as
support wellness programs for clergy and other church workers.

"Though the campaign is in its infancy, we are gratified that we have
already received a few unsolicited pledges and donations. We invite all
Disciples to prayfully consider the gift they may be able to make to the
health of the church," said William Bailey, campaign chairman, University
Christian Church, Seattle Washington. The Rev. Fred Craddock, Cherry Log
Christian Church, Cherry Log, Georgia is the campaign's honorary chairman.

"The Heartbeats of Faith campaign gives every Disciple the opportunity to
help ensure the viability of the healthcare program of the Christian Church
(Disciples of Christ). Every gift is a testimony of where the donor's heart
is in matters of strengthening the leadership of the church," said Bill
Crowl, campaign director.

Gifts and pledges can be made on line at:  www.heartbeatsoffaith.org or by
contacting the Pension Fund 130 E. Washington, Indianapolis, IN 46204,
317-634-4505.

The campaign will run through the 2007 General Assembly in Fort Worth.
