Some Updates For You

A Letter from Woodhaven
The following are excerpts from a letter received May 16,
2002, from Woodhaven's Paul Ratcliffe, Director of Development.
WOW!!! What a great batch of soup labels we just received from the
region. We received 7 parcels and our volunteers haven't had time to
open them yet, but I wanted to let you know that they have arrived.
We have collected about 320,000 labels towards van #5 - almost 25% of the
way towards our goal of 1.4 million labels. The great effort from
the Christian Church in Illinois and Wisconsin has been a big help for our
"souper" team.
Every day I see Warren being delivered to work in the Campbell's van
that was our third soup label van. Warren works as our receptionist
every afternoon at our main office. He is a paid employee, but he
wouldn't have this opportunity unless he had the specialized
transportation for he and his wheelchair. Who would think that
something as simple as a soup can label could help change a life?
Warren's job gives him pride and dignity - and a paycheck for some extras
in his life.
Please extend our sincere gratitude to all the congregations and
individuals that sent soup labels. They are appreciated and needed.
Sincerely,
V. Paul Ratcliffe
Director of Development

Many
exciting things are occurring as the result of your contributions and
those of other churches.
The new church building in Maputo, Mozambique is nearing
completion.
Your dollars helped make this possible.
|
| The
Disciples of Christ Historical Society has been working hard to
make sure that
many of the resources for historical research are now available
on-line.
We helped to buy the computers and the software to make this
project happen and, again, your dollars are doing ministry. Members of our
denomination (and others) can now do research long distance on the
internet rather than driving to Nashville, Tennessee for the information.

| Evergreen
Christian Church in the Buffalo Grove, Illinois area has begun under
the leadership of John DongGook Roh. They are worshipping each
Sunday, providing literacy classes and nurturing the Korean-American
community in the Greater Chicagoland area.
|
| Faith
Alive is our newest church start - this one in Peoria, Illinois.
It is a different kind of new church, based on cell groups that meet in
homes. Randy Williams is the new church planter and moved to Peoria
in mid-August. More soon on this new venture in building God's
realm.
|
| Two new
churches are in the planning stages.
The first is a Native American
congregation to be located in the eastern part of Illinois.
The second is a congregation that
is being NESTED by the First Christian Church, Springfield. This
"House Church" is comprised of many of the Korean
population of Springfield. A Nested congregation is one that is
housed in and nurtured by another church. |
